Mother of George Floyd’s daughter pays tribute in emotional speech in Minneapolis

The mother of slain African American man George Floyd’s daughter has paid tribute to him, remembering him as a good father.

Roxie Washington held tight to six-year-old Gianna – the daughter she shared with Floyd – as she made an emotional tribute in Minneapolis on Tuesday.

Although she struggled to get her words out, Washington put emphasis on what had been taken from her daughter.

“At the end of the day, they (the police officers) get to go home and be with their families,” she said through tears at a press conference.

“Gianna does not have a father.

“He will never see her grow up, graduate, he will never walk her down the aisle.

“If there’s a problem she’s having and she needs her dad, she does not have that anymore.”

Washington added Floyd was a good person and father.

“I want justice for him because he was good.

“No matter what anybody thinks, he was good.

“He loved her (Gianna). He loved her so much.

“He still took care of us, he provided for us.”

Floyd died last week after being pinned under the knee of Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin.

Chauvin was subsequently charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter.

Floyd’s death sparked days of protests across the US, some of which turned violent
